Review: L'Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation

I've recently been trying out this new foundation by L'Oreal called Lumi Magique, which I was quite intrigued with since I love their Lumi primer. This is a medium coverage foundation that has a luminous, glowing finish, similar to Neutrogena Healthy Skin and Nars Sheer Glow. This type of finish is really my favorite at the moment, because to me it looks the most like natural skin. I'm overall not a fan of the completely matte, powdery finish of some foundations.

Here's what I like and don't like about the Lumi Magique.

Pros
  • Available at drugstores, therefore less expensive than department store brands. However, as far as drugstore prices go, L'Oreal is on the higher end of the spectrum, at least here in Europe. Still, this foundation is quite affordable.
  • Good, buildable medium coverage. It has better coverage than the Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation, but doesn't look quite as flawless as the Nars Sheer Glow. Leaves a fresh, dewy glow to your skin without adding any shimmer or sparkle. It can be mattified with a powder if you want to tone down the luminous finish.
  • Pump dispenser is easy and mess-free; I also like the rose-gold packaging.
  • Wears wells on me for an acceptable length of time.

Cons

  • Very limited color range (at least here in Switzerland) and even this one named Rose Porcelain (which makes me think it will be slightly pink based) goes on very yellow, almost leaning toward orange. This can be corrected with a white foundation if you have fair skin, but it's a hassle. The limited color range means it might be very hard for some to find a good match.

Overall I like this foundation and think it's a great purchase from the drugstore if you can find a match. At this point I'm not sure if I would repurchase simply because my skin is so fair that even the lightest one looks quite yellow on me. I will try to blend it with a white foundation to even it out, but if you're lucky enough to fall within L'Oreal's rather narrow colour range and you like a dewy finish, I definitely recommend checking it out. If you have oily skin or live in a tropical climate, I would probably stay away.

  5. Finally found a good review for the Lumi products. Thank you. Definitely getting the primer. Summer in Southern Florida makes any kind of foundation difficult. Right now I'm using The Balm Shelter tinted moisturizer. Covers really well and doesn't melt.
What is the great polish you are wearing?

  8. Hey Julia,
thanks for reviewing that foundation, I've been meaning to try it out, and now I know what to expect. I have the lumi primer also and it was a pleasant surprise I might say, since I don't really trust drugstore brands. Btw, I love the lipstick you were wearing, could you please tell me which one is it?
    Hugs!

  11. I found this in Canada and same thing - very limited colour tones... You can really see how yellow the colour is on your skin... :( which is too bad because I liked the tester that I took home but would have to mix it with something to match it up.

This product was not for me, greasy, messy with eye makeup. I have used L'oreal for years, but was very dissapointed in this new product, would not recomend it. Peggy

  18. So this is now available in the US under the name True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous. Comes in 15 colours here, and I just bought W1-2 today. I'm super-duper fair-skinned (I'm a NARS Siberia (SG); in original True Match I'd wear W1), this is slightly too dark for me. If I blend it in, it's fine. It also says "may contain bismuth oxychloride" (known skin irritant, usually found in mineral foundations), and I wonder if the bottle I got contains it. I put about a pump's worth on my face (enough to cover cheeks and the chin, and about half an hour or so later, some of that area started to itch, so I had to take it off. :(

  19. Hey Julia, it is a bit irrelevant with this video now but i noticed 2 things: you said your eyebrows have a growing problem, i had that too and i used a Pfizer brand eye ointment called "Terramycin"(i know its crazy) on my eyebrows and it started to grow, it also protects your eyes and enhances your lashes, i have no idea how :)) i applied it before i went to sleep. The second thing that you mentioned before in your videos is the creasing around your eye, you can try "stay, dont stray" from benefit, you can use it also under your concealer. Ok, please feel not offended, i just wanted to share my own ideas, love you, Ceren from Turkey.
