MAC Heirloom Mix Review & Swatches

Hello world! Today I have some of the pieces from the MAC Heirloom Mix collection to show you, which is coming out for the holiday season - available in November 2014. I only have 4 pieces from an obviously much larger collection, but I wanted to give my opinion on the products I do have.

Keep reading for more pictures and the review!

MAC Style Black look

A dramatic, dark purple look inspired by and using products from MAC's Style Black collection. I personally love intense looks like this especially for both eyes and lips, but this look can easily be toned down. You can sub out the dark lips for something more nude, and just use one of the MAC Glimmerglasses from the collection on top. You could also use the basics of this look with any of the other mineralize eyeshadows released with this collection. Some suggestions of what to combine the other colors with:

Gilt by Association: Combine with cool light gold and bronze shades
Cinderfella: Combine with silver, gray, and navy blue shades
Blue Flame: Combine with violet, turquoise and Prussian blue shades

Eyes
MAC Bat Black cream color base, MAC Young Punk mineralize e/s, FaceFront Cosmetics mineral e/s in Little Gremlin, Ben Nye Toast e/s, Makeup Forever Nr. 92 e/s, generic black gel eyeliner, Ben Nye blac eyeliner pencil, MAC Spiked brow pencil

Lips
MAC Velvetella Cremestick lipliner, MAC Night Violet Mattene lipstick, MAC Blackfire Glimmerglass

Cheeks
MAC Blonde MSF, Illamasqua powder blush in Chased

Nails

MAC Style Black Haul

My MAC Style Black Haul! I purchased Young Punk Mineral shadow, Bat Black Cream Color Base, Night Violet Mattene lipstick, and Blackfire Glimmerglass. I have to say I really love the eyeshadow a lot and think it's so great for doing smokey looks, especially layered over a black base. I was afraid that Bat Black was going to crease like crazy, but after some experimentation I found that it works fine if you apply it over a MAC Paint (I like Untitled) with a brush and just apply a very thin layer. Didn't crease at all after that!

Overall I love this edgy collection and wish that MAC would release more collections like this - how many times have we seen the same colors just repeated over and over again in different packaging with a new name? Enough pinks and nudes already! How many MAC collections have we had this year with those same boring shades?

In this haul I also purchased MAC Media lipstick, and So This Season Lipglass from the F/W Trend collection. I love both! I have an obsession with vampy lipstick colors, can you tell? Don't be afraid to stray from the ever-so-popular nude lips - dark, bold lipstick shades can look fabulous!

Sorry, I'm not one for swatching, but you can find some great swatches of this collection here.

MAC Style Black collection

I've been looking forward to this collection all year! I've skipped over so many of the MAC collections because they've been very "ehhh" for me so far this year, but Style Black is so me. It's dark, edgy, gothic inspired - what more could I want? The collection is officially being released on September 24 in North America, a bit later in Europe and elsewhere. If you're unsure of what's coming out, you can check this thread on Specktra for all the details and you can also find Swatches of the products here. Temptalia has also made this compilation video with swatch pictures of the products:

I have to say I am really looking forward to this collection. Since I'm so impatient, a lovely person from the States has agreed to do a CP for me. I'll be getting:

Night Violet Mattene lipstick
Blackfire Glimmerglass
Young Punk Mineral Eyeshadow
Bat Black Cream Color Base

Although I have said before I am not a fan of the Dazzleglasses, I do think this particular one would look spectacular layered over a dark lipstick shade. Absolutely useless on it's own, but over a dark lipstick I think it will shine. Bat Black CCB is actually a product I've been wanting for a long time but it's Pro only, so I can't buy it here. I want to get this specifically for layering for my darker eye looks, and I think it will work fabulously with the purple Young Punk Mineral shadow, as it has a burgundy undertone itself. I've never purchased MAC's mineral shadows before because I always felt the color payoff was poor, but this purple one looks so pretty so I'm going to give it a shot. I'm also really excited about the lipstick, and in the CP I'll also be getting a couple more dark colored lip products from other collections, so I'm really looking forward on doing a Haul video, and then a tutorial with those products for you all!

I have to say, this is probably my favorite MAC collection since MAC Cult of Cherry last autumn. Which MAC collection are you looking forward to? Will you be picking anything up from Style Black? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Sort of recent haul - discounted MAC!

Pictures of a recent purchase I made at allcosmeticswholesale.com for some MAC and Benefit. I get asked all the time where one can purchase MAC or other brands for cheaper than retail, and this site is it! I generally advise against purchasing MAC on eBay or other discount websites which are often rife with counterfeit items, but this site is legit. I found out about this website from Specktra and makeupalley.com with rave reviews from customers who confirmed the items were real, so I decided to try it out and yes, all my items are authentic. I purchased the MAC 109 brush, Benefit High Beam highlighter, MAC Dazzlelight pan, and MAC Flattering mattene lipstick (LE). Especially for customers outside of the USA, the prices will be extremely discounted, it's less than half of what I pay for MAC in Switzerland.

Here you can see a comparison between Dazzlelight and Shroom, both which are great highlight colors. However, Dazzlelight is far superior because of the texture - it's a buttery smooth Veluxe Pearl and Shroom is a horrible Satin. MAC's satin finish just doesn't work on me, and Shroom has just crusted up on me to the point where I can't use it at all anymore. The top layer is filmy beyond repair (I've tried scraping at it with a sharp knife), and it's the only MAC shadow I have that does this. Dazzlelight has much better pigment payoff and Veluxe Pearls are MAC's best finish.

Benefit High Beam is a nice liquid highlighter, I love the sheen it gives but hate the packaging. It is packaged similar to a nailpolish, the handle leads into a nailpolish brush. Who on earth thought up this horrendous packaging? I hate Benefit's packaging in general, too fussy and not practical, so a big fat ZERO on the packaging. But I love the product! It's smooth and easy to spread and gives a lovely sheen, and can be blended out nicely. High Beam is pink based, whereas Benefit's Moon Beam is more yellow based.

MAC Flattering Mattene lipstick (LE)
Flattering is a nice neutral shade veering into the brown cream tone, and I love the matte finish. It's not as drying as other matte lipsticks I have tried, but a lip balm underneath is essential. Too bad the Mattenes were limited edition, they are richly pigmented and great if you want matte lips.

MAC: Creme Team, Grand Duos, Sugarsweet pictures

Bjooti.net has shared some new pictures from upcoming MAC collections on her blog. Click for full size.
Creme Team:

Sugarsweet:

Grand Duos:
These upcoming collections look a lot more interesting to me than that over-hyped Hello Kitty tripe. Yes, I said it. I have to reserve the final judgment for when I see the collection face to face, but so far it's thumbs down to Hello Kitty for me. Everyone has been asking me what I think of the HK collection and honestly I find it completely snooze-worthy. Besides fancy packaging, there's not much excitement for me in the actual color collection. These upcoming collections have a lot more pizazz for me. For detailed information on all the upcoming collections, please check out Specktra.net.
