IKEA releases a new MALM vanity!

So you probably all know the infamous MALM vanity from IKEA by now that I, and many other makeup enthusiasts, own.

A lot of people, however, just don't have space for this vanity in their home because it is 191cm in length. IKEA has now released a new, smaller version of the MALM vanity that measures 120cm in length! In a recent video I saw on Youtube, the drawer inside looks like one solid compartment, versus the 4 individual compartments of the larger one. But everything else looks pretty much the same!

May be worth checking out at your local IKEA store if you always wanted a MALM vanity but size was an issue for you. Please check your country's IKEA website for prices, locations, etc as prices vary from country to country.

If you want to see my vanity area, I took these pictures over a year ago when I originally purchased the vanity. I would say my collection has doubled or tripled by now though as these pictures are quite outdated; I had to buy a separate little chest of drawers for extra storage and I'm running out of space again! It's getting a bit ridiculous, honestly. I'll have to do some re-organization soon.

  1. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this! I've been looking for a small affordable vanity for my room. I checked Ikea's site and they even have this in a dark color. I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

  9. I love the look of these Malm units... sadly though even the smaller one is too big for my teeny weeny flat - In my bedroom there is basically only enough room for a bed, chest of drawers and a little bedside table... One day though, when I have a big room, I will have one of these lol!

  10. i love you vanity, julia. i think i said that before. ;) anyway, sdly i don't have the space for either of these tables. but i use the same wodden drawers as magpiesparkles is using. i can so recommend these. and that helps me to organize my stuff and keep the collection "smallish"
    have a great day!

wow! so lovely i was almost salivating (not in a weird way... in an "i want that so badly" way). i had seen your brush set-up before and loved the idea, so i put some sand in a tin bucket to go along with my beach vibe bathroom. i wanted to say a big "thank you" to you for sharing your idea because i am so happy with my brush storage now. you are the best!

Julia, thanks for the post! I think you created the MALM craze...After seeing your beautiful setup, I went out and purchased it too. IKEA owes you some $$$$...I think everyone on youtube will be making this purchase. I have the larger one like you in a dark brown and I love it, just love it! It's the center piece in my teeny tiny NYC apartment. Again, thanks for being so sweet and creating such fab looks! I look forward to your spring summer looks! All the best, Reese

Ahh! What a coincidence. I was just at IKEA today and was thinking about your vanity and how amazing it is. I just bought a regular table for my makeup area, and I can't believe they came out with a smaller version since it would fit my room perfectly! Oh well...lol

  16. I recently bought the same vanity you have. When i was at Ikea I also saw the new version, I like the one that we both have more, but i must say, the new MALM vanity has a huge advantage.. its height!! You don't need an office chair to reach it! :)

    I love your looks Julia!

I just got the longer table a few hours ago (the one Julia has). I'm such a sucker for anything even remotely-related to makeup. Anyways, apparently the longer table is discontinued in the U.S. but certain stores still have a few in stock for 79 bucks! Yes, that's a $100 discount! I was so exited! I made my boyfriend drive an hour to that particular store so we could get it. He's happy i will finally put all my makeup away somewhere.
If any of you are in the southern california area, the table is in the discount area of the South Coast plaza store of Costa Mesa (Los Angeles area). There are 88 left, so hurry!

Is the mirror in this photo MALM also? I cannot find it anywhere on their website to see if it is available at my IKEA in the US. The oak veneer colored vanity is the only color left unfortunately, as I love the birch color. But hey-if it is on sale (discontinued), I will take it. Now, if I can ony find the dang mirror to go with this. Can you lead me in the right direction please??? I hope that is not a discontinued item too.

I have the small one, I don't like it because it hasnt got much space. Does anyone know where I can get the large one (191cm in length)?

Hi! I am not quite sure if you know this, I guess not. Someone used the photo of YOUR vanity for his/her eBay auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.de/Ikea-Malm-Frisiertisch-Topzustand-gay-Berlin-10179-/180616303358?pt=DE_Haus_Garten_Inneneinrichtung_Kommoden&hash=item2a0d9212fe
He (or she, I don't know) even used a another photo taken by a blogger (I wrote her the same text). I know it's not my business, but I saw this and realized that I know this photo from your blog and I just wanted to tell you that.

    Viele Grüße aus Deutschland :)
